What To Do In An Earthquake : If There Is A Big Earthquake

What To Do In An Earthquake: If there is a big earthquake, Then all the precautions that you need to take are taken into consideration here.

After 10 to moderate earthquakes in the last one and a half months in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the state is likely to witness a major earthquake in the coming days, experts from the Department of Applied Geophysics and Seismology of IIT Dhanbad say.

Experts say recurrent tremors of smaller magnitude indicate larger earthquakes. Thus, it is time for the government to take preventive measures and create awareness.

An earthquake can occur at any time without notice. Experts cannot predict the exact location and scale, but there is constant seismic activity going on around Delhi (NCR), which makes it a concern.

Here is a detailed plan of things before, during and after the earthquake.

Before the earthquake

One of the most important ways to make your home as safe as possible. If your home is old, identify potential weaknesses. Things inside your house are as important as the walls of the house. Visit your home and look for stuff that may fall or break when the ground is shaken. You can reorganize a bit by moving larger and heavier items to the lower shelves. You can bolt the bookcase to the wall and latch the cupboard.

Watch for home appliances that you will need to turn off when an earthquake hits. Be sure to check the gas connection.

Prepare an emergency kit

Assemble an earthquake emergency kit that lasts at least 72 hours. This kit should have water, food and other important supplies. Consider each member of your family, including your pets, when preparing the kit.

What to do when he starts moving

When you feel jerky, protect yourself as soon as possible. The National Disaster Management Division (NDMD) of the Ministry of Home Affairs shares these three functions: drop, cover and hold, also known as the Triangle of Life.

Drop: Get down on all fours (knees and hands) to keep yourself from getting knocked down. It is an ideal position to crawl for shelter.

Cover: Place your hands over your head and neck to protect yourself from debris. Stay under any nearby table or other shelter, until the tremors stop. If a table is not nearby, move to one of the interior walls of your home, away from high objects and furniture.

A common misconception is that doors provide the best protection during an earthquake. But according to the Earthquake Country Coalition, if your house is too old, it is not correct.

Hold: Stay under cover until the shaking stops. If you are under a table, hold it with one hand. If you are in the open, shield your head and neck with your arms.

If you are in a wheelchair

If you are in a wheelchair, lock the wheels and then bend to protect your vital organs, including your head and neck.

What to do when you’re out

If you are outside when an earthquake occurs, fall to the ground in a clear place away from buildings, trees and powerlines.

If you are driving, stop and stop your parking brake. Avoid bridges, powerlines. Signs, buildings, vehicles and other things that may fall on your car.

What to do if you live in a tall building

People living in high-rise buildings are unsure about whether they should stay out of their buildings or step outside during an earthquake.

The simple answer is, you should not run. If an earthquake occurs and you are in the upper story of a building, do not try to leave the building. Once the earthquake stops, grab your shoes and money and leave the building.

It is best to stay outside and away from buildings during an earthquake. But crossing a building and its surrounding area during an earthquake is a terrible idea.

Most earthquakes do not last long. When floors and stairs are moving unexpectedly, how fast can you leave your building and stuff and debris are falling on you?

Chances are you can’t make it out of a high story building during an earthquake.

Worse still, if a building collapses, a strong piece of furniture or a bathtub can provide a void space that can let you survive until help arrives.

Stops after shaking

Sometimes, even after the ground stops, it is not necessary that the threat is over. When the Earth shivers, it can produce a series of small lakes known as aftershocks.

On some rare occasions, a second earthquake is even larger than the first. When this happens, the first earthquake is called an anterior part and the second temple is called the main temple.

Once shaking, check first for injuries. Sometimes people do not initially feel pain because of adrenaline that passes through the body during life-threatening events. If you are inside a heavily damaged structure, get yourself and our other as soon as possible.

If you get stuck after the earthquake ends

If you get stuck inside your house or building, keep calm. Protect your eyes, mouth and nose from the dust with the help of your clothes or hands. Whistling or shouting to get people’s attention. If you have something you can beat to make noise, do so. In the meantime, keep an eye on other dangerous things as well, such as power lines, broken gas pipes and other erratic structures.

Avoid making these mistakes during an earthquake

According to experts at the University of Washington, people should be careful and avoid making two to three mistakes during an earthquake.

Do not run in or out of other rooms when the earth is moving: you may fall by shaking. You can also run into flying and falling objects that can cause serious injury.

Do not stand in a doorway: In a modern house the doors are not stronger than in other parts of the house. By standing in the doorway, you are also at risk of falling or falling from flying objects, the most common source of earthquake injury.

Although the earthquake’s unpredictable situation is catastrophic, but with a little preparation, you can be ready if someone makes a big attack.
